Doctors, Paramedics in J&K Directed to Wear Aprons and Nameplates During Duty Hours

Srinagar: Amid rising concerns over identification issues in government-run healthcare institutions, the Jammu and Kashmir Health and Medical Education Department has made it mandatory for all doctors and paramedical staff to wear white aprons and legible nameplates during duty hours. The directive, issued through a formal circular, seeks to address non-compliance that has reportedly been causing significant inconvenience to patients.

The circular notes that doctors and paramedical staff in various healthcare institutions have not been strictly following the prescribed norms regarding proper identification while on duty. It highlights that the lack of visible aprons and nameplates has made it difficult for patients and attendants to identify healthcare personnel, thereby affecting communication and service delivery.

“In order to streamline the system and improve patient care, all doctors including those working under the National Health Mission (NHM) and Ayush, as well as paramedical staff in all government healthcare institutions across Jammu and Kashmir, are directed to wear proper white aprons and display nameplates clearly showing their full name and designation at all times during duty hours,” the circular states.

The directive has been signed by Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, IAS, Secretary to the Government. It calls upon all Heads of Institutions, Medical Superintendents, and Chief Medical Officers to ensure strict compliance with the instructions within their respective domains. [KNT]
