Safapora: Tensions ran high in the Safapora area of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Monday following the alleged murder of a 28-year-old woman, triggering a protest by her family and local residents demanding immediate justice.
The protestors, who gathered in large numbers, accused a close relative of the victim of being behind the crime and pressed for swift police action. Holding placards and shouting slogans, they called for a fair and transparent investigation into the incident, which has shaken the local community.
“We demand a transparent and speedy investigation, along with strict punishment for the accused,” said a civil society member who joined the demonstration.
In response to the growing public anger, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal, Khalil Ahmad Poswal, visited the site of the protest to address the concerns of the aggrieved family and local residents. He assured them that police had already initiated legal proceedings.
“An FIR has been registered and the investigation is underway. The accused has been taken into custody. Anyone found involved in this heinous act will face strict action under the law,” SSP Poswal told reporters.
Following his assurance, the protest concluded peacefully. However, locals emphasized that justice must not be delayed and urged the authorities to deliver a time-bound outcome in the case. [KNT]
