AM News Network

Srinagar: A delegation from the Editors Coordination Forum of Journalists, comprising representatives from 30 newspapers across Jammu and Kashmir, on Wednesday held a detailed meeting with the Director of Information and Public Relations Nitish Rajora (IAS) to discuss concerns surrounding government advertisements and pending dues.

During the meeting, several editors raised serious concerns about the alleged blocking of advertisements to their respective publications. They conveyed that despite being empanelled, their papers had not received government advertisements for a prolonged period, which was adversely impacting their operations.

In response, the Director clarified that no advertisements had been blocked. He explained that the department is currently implementing a rationalization policy to streamline the distribution of advertisements and ensure transparency and equity in the system.

Importantly, the Director Nitish Rajora assured the forum that member publications will be given advertisements at rates higher than the current ones, as part of a broader commitment to support the working journalists and sustain the media industry in the Union Territory. He acknowledged the critical role that local newspapers play in shaping public discourse and promised that all genuine concerns will be addressed.

The Editors Coordination Forum appreciated the Director for his patient hearing and positive response. They described the interaction as cordial and productive, expressing gratitude for the Director’s openness and willingness to resolve long-standing issues.

“The Director met us warmly and addressed our issues with sincerity. We are thankful to him for giving us a patient hearing and assuring us of fair treatment in advertisement distribution,” a spokesperson of the Editors Coordination Forum said after the meeting.

The forum also welcomed the Director’s commitment to uphold the dignity of journalistic institutions and ensure their survival in a challenging media landscape.
