Education Minister Assures Flexibility in School Timings Amid Mounting Public Outcry

Kulgam, July 8,: After drawing flak over the recently implemented school timing schedule, Jammu and Kashmir’s Minister for School Education, Sakina Itoo, stepped forward on Tuesday to calm the storm, clarifying that the timing policy is still under active consideration and not a definitive directive.

Speaking to reporters during her visit to Kulgam, Minister Sakina Itoo emphasized that the latest move to reopen schools was aimed at streamlining the academic calendar and ensuring that students are adequately prepared for the upcoming November session.

“We have resumed in-person classes from today, and yes, there has been a flood of responses from parents and students regarding the new timing structure,” she said. “But let me make it absolutely clear, this schedule is not etched in stone. We are open to suggestions and will revisit it if any genuine difficulties come to light.”

The minister urged students and guardians to stay composed and refrain from panicking, adding that the administration remains receptive to community feedback. “Our intention is never to inconvenience anyone. If the present schedule proves challenging, adjustments will be made accordingly,” she reassured.

Highlighting the academic urgency, Itoo pointed out that time is of the essence. “It’s already mid-July. With only August and September remaining before the pre-winter assessments begin, we are racing against the clock. The goal is to create an environment where students can study with focus and direction,” she noted.

She further stated that restoring classroom learning and minimizing academic disruptions remain top priorities for the department. “Whether it’s about school reopenings, modifying breaks, or shifting schedules, every move is geared toward enabling students to stay on track and perform to their fullest potential,” She added.

The Minister concluded with an encouraging message: “We want our youth to shine, be it in J&K or on national platforms. That requires consistent effort, and we’re here to facilitate that in every possible way.” [KNT]
