Authorities Reclaim ‘Encroached’ State Land in Beerwah Operation

Beerwah, Jul 1,: In a significant move to reclaim encroached public land and enforce building regulations, the local administration carried out a demolition drive in the Sonpah area of Beerwah in central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
The operation was led by Tehsildar Beerwah, Ms. Aliya Tabasum, alongside Naib Tehsildar Abdul Qayoom Ahnger and Deputy Superintendent of Police Monvi Gupta. The drive, executed under tight security arrangements, targeted unauthorized structures erected on government land.
Officials stated that the initiative is part of a broader campaign aimed at removing encroachments and ensuring planned urban development across the region.
“Such drives are essential for the organized development of our district and for ensuring there is no unlawful occupation of state land,” Tehsildar Aliya Tabasum told Kashmir News Trust. She reiterated the administration’s resolve to act against violations of land and building norms.
Naib Tehsildar Abdul Qayoom Ahnger emphasized that legal procedures were followed in the run-up to the demolition. “Prior notices were served to all encroachers. The operation was executed with full planning to minimize disruption,” he said.
DySP Monvi Gupta, who oversaw the security arrangements, said the priority was to ensure the safety of all involved. “Thanks to the cooperation of all stakeholders, the operation concluded peacefully without any law and order issues,” she added.
Local residents had mixed responses to the drive. While some expressed concern over the sudden action, many supported the initiative, acknowledging its potential to curb illegal construction and reduce congestion in the area. [KNT]
