Rajouri, June 24,: Two women were killed and nine other persons sustained serious injuries when a tempo traveller collided head-on with a mini load carrier in the Chattyari-Chingus area of Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir early Tuesday morning.

Officials told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the mishap occurred around 5:30 AM when the tempo traveller, which was on its way from Rajouri town to Jammu, crashed into a mini goods vehicle. The impact was so intense that the tempo was left completely mangled, indicating the severity of the collision.

The two women who lost their lives in the accident have been identified as 26-year-old Insha Fatima of Khotra and 50-year-old Farzand Begum of Fatehpur. According to officials, both women died on the spot.

Among the nine injured passengers were Muhammad Iqbal, the husband of deceased Farzand Begum, and their daughter, Rafia Iqbal. The victims were immediately evacuated from the spot of the accident and rushed to hospitals.

Seven of the injured were admitted to Government Medical College Hospital in Rajouri, while two, identified as a man and his minor nephew, were shifted to a military hospital due to the critical nature of their injuries, officials added.

A police officer confirmed to KNT that a formal case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the collision. Eyewitnesses suggested that the accident may have been caused by rash driving or poor visibility in the early morning hours.

The road where the accident took place has witnessed several mishaps in the past due to sharp turns and inadequate signage. [KNT]
