Pakistan Escalating Tensions, But Won’t Benefit From It: CM Omar in Samba

Says, Civilians Were Targeted; Full Credit to Defence Forces for Shooting Down All Drones; Injured Receiving All Possible Assistance

Samba, May 9: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said Pakistan is deliberately trying to escalate the situation along the borders, but it will not benefit from such actions. He praised the Indian defence forces for effectively shooting down all drones aimed at civilian areas.

Speaking to reporters in Samba, CM Omar, as per news agency JKNS, said, “The biggest concern is that civilians were targeted. They used drones, but full credit goes to our defence forces they shot them all down. In Kashmir’s Anantnag, an ammunition depot was also targeted, but the attempt was successfully foiled.”

He emphasized that India did not initiate the current escalation. “We did not start this. Innocent people were killed in Pahalgam, and we had to respond. Pakistan is trying to escalate matters, but such steps will not serve them any good. They should lay down their weapons and opt for de-escalation instead of provocation,” Omar said.

“Massive casualties have been reported in Poonch. Property damage is extensive and many people are injured. I visited the injured in the hospital they are receiving treatment. One seriously injured person was shifted to Chandigarh earlier this morning and has undergone surgery,” he added.

When asked about the medical and relief facilities being provided to the injured and affected families, the Chief Minister stated, “All possible support is being extended. We are providing three meals a day, tea, medical camps, ambulances whatever is possible, we are doing our best.”

Earlier, CM Omar Abdullah visited Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu to inquire about the well-being of civilians injured in the recent cross-border shelling incidents. (JKNS)
