Accused Convicted For Theft at Jamia Masjid Nowhatta: Police

Srinagar: Police on Thursday said that in a significant victory for justice, the Court of 3rd Additional Munsif/JMIC Srinagar has convicted Irfan Ahmad Sheikh, resident of Daribal Ganderbal, for the offence under Section 303(2) BNS in case FIR No. 04/2025 of Police Station Nowhatta.

In a statement police said that on January 18, 2025, when the Awkaf Jamia Committee reported the theft of cash from the donation box at Jamia Masjid Nowhatta, Srinagar Police registered the case and launched an investigation, which led to the identification and arrest of the accused.

The police spokesman further stated that the police team of Nowhatta Police Station worked tirelessly to ensure that the case was charge-sheeted within the stipulated period.

Today, the accused was convicted and sentenced to pay a fine of Rs. 500 for the commission of the offence under Section 303(2) BNS. Additionally, the accused has been sentenced to imprisonment till the rising of the court, he said.

This conviction is a testament to the team efforts of the Srinagar Police and their commitment to upholding justice and maintaining peace and public order in the society, reads the statement.
