Barring Keran, dozens of far-flung, remote areas again cutoff in Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 3 (UNI) Dozens of far-flung and remote villages, including border towns of Karnah, Machil and Tanghdar, were again cut off on Wednesday in north Kashmir due to slippery road conditions following fresh snowfall.

However, one-way traffic was through to the border town of Keran despite fresh snowfall.
Meanwhile, traffic to border towns of Gurez in Bandipora remained suspended since January 1 due to accumulation of several feet of snow.

“Traffic was suspended to dozens of far-flung and remote villages, including Kernah, Machil and Tanghdar, due to slippery road conditions following fresh snowfall since early this morning,” an official of Police Control Room (PCR), Kupwara, told UNI over the phone.

He said Sadhna top, Z gali and Phirkiyan pass received several inches of fresh snowfall since early this morning. “But, traffic was plying on Kupwara-Keran road,” he added.

An official of Police Control Room (PCR) from Bandipora told UNI that Gurez, which is surrounded from Pakistan-occupied- Kashmir (PoK) from three sides, remained closed for traffic since January 1. “Razdan pass, connecting Gurez, Neeru and dozens of other areas near LoC with district headquarters Bandipora, which is already covered over several feet of snow, received fresh snowfall since early this morning,” he said.
