Kashmir Women’s Cricket Team Embarks on Historic Pune Tour, Showcasing Sportsmanship and Resilience

Srinagar: In a remarkable initiative under the Sadbhavana project by the Chinar Corps, in collaboration with the Aseem Foundation, 15 budding women cricketers from the Kashmir Valley have embarked on a cricket tour to Pune. The tour aims to nurture sporting talent, promote national integration, and expose young athletes to the diverse cultural landscape of India.
Upon their arrival in Pune, the team visited the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Sports Complex, Gahunje, where they interacted with local players and geared up for a series of matches. The highlight of the tour was the Kashmir-Pune Friendship Trophy, played at MCA Ground 2, Gahunje, where the spirit of the game transcended competition.
Despite braving subzero temperatures back home, the Kashmiri women cricketers displayed remarkable dedication and skill on the field. Their passion and perseverance earned them admiration, and in an extraordinary gesture of sportsmanship, the MCA team, despite securing victory, handed over the trophy to the Kashmir Women’s Team—a tribute to their resilience and courage.
The match was graced by the Commandant of the National Defence Academy (NDA), who lauded the efforts of the Chinar Corps for empowering Kashmiri youth through sports since 2020. The toss was conducted by renowned sports journalist Sunandan Lele, who shared valuable insights and encouragement with the players. Adding to the event’s significance, MCA Apex Team members, including the CEO and Secretary, reaffirmed their commitment to supporting women’s cricket.
Sarang Gosavi of the Aseem Foundation expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, particularly the Indian Army and MCA, for their unwavering support in making the initiative a success. The event also paid homage to Late Col Manpreet Singh, KC, SM, who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty and was posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra last year.
With the spirit of cricket and camaraderie at its core, the Kashmir Women’s Cricket Team’s tour to Pune marks an inspiring milestone. The initiative not only provides a platform for these young athletes to showcase their talent but also serves as a beacon of hope, breaking barriers and inspiring the youth of Kashmir to pursue their dreams with determination.(CNS)
