Distt admin Pulwama celebrates ‘International Women’s Day’

Focus on Women’s empowerment, Gender Equality, women achievers felicitated

Pulwama:  District Administration Pulwama in collaboration with Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) Pulwama and District Social Welfare Office (DSWO) Pulwama organized a grant event today at Govt Degree College Pulwama to celebrate International Women’s Day.

The programme was conducted to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of women in society, promote gender equality and highlight government initiatives dedicated to women empowerment.

During the function, various officials, experts and women entrepreneurs shared their insights and experiences, emphasizing the achievements of women in different spheres. Special focus was laid on ensuring women’s safety and advancing gender equality.

Officials raised awareness about government initiatives such as Sakhi – One Stop Centre and Sankalp – Hub for Women Empowerment, encouraging women to leverage these schemes for their upliftment.

Moreover, Women achievers from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) across the district narrated their inspiring success stories, sharing their journeys in diverse fields. They acknowledged the physical and financial support provided by the government and encouraged the audience to overcome challenges and excel in their respective domains.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Pulwama, Dr. S. M. Ashraf, while addressing the gathering, emphasized the need for parents to provide equal opportunities and treatment to both male and female children. He emphasized that women possess the same potential as men and should be empowered to thrive in every domain.

Dr. Ashraf also highlighted the remarkable contributions of the women of Pulwama in various sectors and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence.

A major highlight of the programme was the cultural performances, including Nukkad Natak and folk songs, which captivated the audience. These performances were aimed at raising awareness and promoting gender equality.

Officials also emphasized the vital role of women in preserving water bodies and maintaining environmental sustainability. Awareness sessions on sanitation, hygiene, judicious use of water and rainwater harvesting were conducted, along with a live demonstration of water quality testing by experts.

The event concluded with a felicitation ceremony, recognizing outstanding women achievers from various fields. Mementos and certificates of appreciation were distributed to women achievers across various fields. Their contributions were recognized as instrumental in driving social progress and community well-being.

The event witnessed the presence of Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Pulwama; Project Manager, JJM, Pulwama; Chief Education Officer, Pulwama; Executive Engineer JJM Pulwama/Awantipora; along with District officers. Additionally Anganwadi workers; ASHA Workers and local residents also attended the event.
