Gyanesh Kumar Appointed Chief Election Commissioner, Vivek Joshi as Election Commissioner

New Delhi:The Government of India has appointed Shri Gyanesh Kumar as the new Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of the Election Commission of India. The appointment, made under the provisions of the Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners Act, 2023, will take effect from February 19, 2025.
According to the News Agency—Srinagar News Observer (SNO) Additionally, Dr. Vivek Joshi, IAS (HY:1989) has been appointed as an Election Commissioner in the Election Commission of India. His appointment will be effective from the date he assumes charge.
The official Gazette of India notification was issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice on February 17, 2025, and signed by Dr. Rajiv Mani, Secretary of the Legislative Department.
Shri Gyanesh Kumar, a seasoned bureaucrat, has previously held key positions in the central government, contributing significantly to administrative reforms and policy implementation. Dr. Vivek Joshi, an IAS officer from the Haryana cadre, brings extensive experience in governance and public administration.
These appointments come at a crucial time as the Election Commission prepares for upcoming electoral processes in the country.—(SNO)
