Leopard Attack in Budgam: 16 Sheep Killed, Locals Demand Action

Budgam: A leopard attack in Shamsabad, Khansahib area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam  left a local farmer reeling from heavy losses. Mohammad Ramzan Bhat lost 16 sheep when the predator struck his livestock.

Bhat, who tried to protect his flock, had a narrow escape from the leopard, which retreated after the attack. “The loss is a major financial setback for the farmer,” said locals and urged authorities to provide compensation to help him recover.

Residents of the area have called on the wildlife department to intervene urgently and capture the leopard to prevent further attacks. They stress the need for immediate action to safeguard both the community and wildlife.
“This is not the first such incident, and we fear for our safety,” said a concerned local to the news agency Kashmir News Trust. [KNT]
