We are Muslims by Name Not by Action, Says Farooq Abdullah

Calls for Collective Action Against Drug Menace

Srinagar: National Conference President and former Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah has urged the people of Kashmir to rise collectively against the growing menace of drug addiction and trade in the region.

While talking to reporters in Srinagar, Farooq Abdullah described the drug menace as a serious challenge, stating, “This is a wake-up call for the people of Kashmir. There is a lot of dirty money involved in this drug trade, and unless we Kashmiris wake up, we won’t be able to control it.”

Dr. Abdullah expressed his disappointment over the moral and spiritual degradation in society, emphasizing, “We are Muslims only by name and not by action, and that is why we are struggling.”

He pitched for self-reflection and societal reforms to address not only the drug crisis but also the broader issues plaguing the Muslim community.

When asked about the status and protection of Wakf properties, Dr. Abdullah expressed confidence, stating, “Allah will save us and the Wakf.” He highlighted the importance of these properties for the welfare of the community and reiterated the need to protect them from any encroachment or mismanagement.

Farooq Abdullah as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust described Article 370 as a provision that safeguarded the interests and identity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “Article 370 was for the protection and safeguard of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, irrespective of caste, color, regional identity, and religion,” he said.

He called for the restoration of J&K’s statehood, stating that it is a crucial step toward ensuring dignity and self-governance for the people. “We are waiting for the Centre to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir,” he added. [KNT]
