Kashmir valley gripped by cold weather, slight improvement in night temp

Srinagar: Despite a slight improvement in night temperatures, Kashmir Valley is gripped by cold weather.

According to the Meteorological Department official, the cold wave is likely to continue in the Valley till December 26.

South Kashmir’s Shopian district recorded a minimum temperature of minus 7.8 degrees Celsius, while the tourist destination of Sonamarg recorded minimum temperature of minus 7.7 degrees Celsius.

Zojila once again recorded a minimum temperature of minus 23.0 degrees Celsius. The summer capital Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 4.5 degrees Celsius, compared to the previous night’s minus 5.3 degrees Celsius.

Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 5.8 degrees Celsius, down from minus 6.8 degrees Celsius last night.Kupwara recorded a low of minus 4.4 degrees Celsius, down from minus 5.6 degrees Celsius last night.Qazigund recorded a low of minus 5.0 degrees Celsius, down from minus 6.0 degrees Celsius last night.

The night temperatures in Pulwama, Anantnag and Kulgam districts of south Kashmir were minus 7.3 degrees Celsius, minus 6.9 degrees Celsius and minus 5.1 degrees Celsius respectively.

The minimum temperatures in Baramulla and Bandipora in north Kashmir were minus 3.4 degrees Celsius and minus 4.2 degrees Celsius respectively.

The night temperature in Budgam and Ganderbal in central Kashmir was recorded at minus 5.0 degrees Celsius and minus 4.2 degrees Celsius respectively.

The minimum temperature in Kargil district of Ladakh Union Territory was minus 9-10 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature in Leh district was minus 10.0 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department official said that there is no possibility of any major change in the weather in the valley till December 26, but the cold wave may continue. He said that the weather is likely to remain dry in the valley from December 17 to 20.

He said that later on December 21 and 22, the weather may remain cloudy overall and during this time light snowfall is expected in the hilly areas from the evening of December 21 to the morning of December 22.

He said that after this, the weather is likely to remain dry in the valley from December 23 to 26.
