Celebrating 31st World Disability Day: A Seminar and Cultural Programme on Amplifying Youth Leadership with Disabilities

New Delhi: On the occasion of the 31st World Disability Day, the Special Interest Group of the Commonwealth Youth Council (CYC), led by Ms. Farhana Bhat, Special Interest Groups Representative (Indian Representative), Ms. Srishti Bhatnagar (Policy Advisor SIGR CYC), and Mr. Bhargav R. (Government Advisor), organized a Seminar and Cultural Programme at the iconic India Gate, New Delhi, under the theme:
Amplifying the Leadership of Youth with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future.

The event was attended by Shri PC Mohan, Hon’ble Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment, graced the occasion with his presence as the Chief Guest. His presence highlighted the importance of promoting inclusivity and empowering youth with disabilities to take on leadership roles in society. Also other distinguished guests and leaders in the field of disability rights, as well as youth and community leaders from across India.

The seminar featured insightful discussions on the leadership potential of youth with disabilities, exploring ways to create a more inclusive and sustainable future. Experts shared their perspectives on the challenges faced by disabled youth, and ways to empower them through education, policy reforms, and community-driven initiatives.

The cultural programme that followed was a vibrant celebration of the talents of young people with disabilities. It showcased various forms of art, dance, and music, illustrating how youth with disabilities are breaking barriers and contributing meaningfully to society.

The event served as an important reminder of the critical need to amplify the voices of youth with disabilities in leadership positions, ensuring that they are included in conversations about the future of our communities, societies, and nations.

The Commonwealth Youth Council’s initiative aimed not only to celebrate the achievements of youth with disabilities but also to highlight the ongoing efforts needed to create a truly inclusive world for all.
