Nepal Foreign Minister in Delhi for 2-way talks

New Delhi, Nepal’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Pradeep Kumar Gyawali arrived here on Thursday for the Sixth Meeting of Nepal-India Joint Commission.

The Joint Commission Meeting will discuss the whole gamut of Nepal-India bilateral relations, including trade, transit, energy and boundary.

Gyawali’s delegation consists of the Ambassador of Nepal to India, Foreign Secretary, Health Secretary, and other senior officials of the Nepali government.

The two sides in talks on Friday will also discuss COVID-19 cooperation, infrastructure, connectivity, investment, agriculture, tourism, culture, among others, said a foreign ministry statement in Kathmandu.

Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla during a visit to Kathmandu in November had assured supplying vaccine to the country.

“Given our genetic profiles, what works for India is likely to work for Nepal as well. Together we will recover from the pandemic and together we will protect our people,’ Shringla had then said.

The talks are taking place at a time when ties between the two neighbours have come under the shadow of a border row after the KP Oli government last year issued a new political map that included Kalapani, Limpiyadhura and Lipulekh, which are part of Indian territory.

While in New Delhi, Gyawali will meet with the high-level dignitaries of India.

Gyawali is scheduled to return to Nepal on January 16, 2021.
