Dy CM calls for time bound completion of vital road projects

Emphasises need based area development, zero tolerance towards corruption

SSrinagar: Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Choudhary, today directed the officers to ensure need based and area specific development is undertaken besides zero tolerance for corruption and any malpractices.

The Deputy Chief Minister was speaking at a review meeting of R&B convened here at Civil Secretariat.

Secretary R&B, Bupinder Kumar, Director Finance, Director Planning, Chief Engineers from different  engineering wings, regional officer, NHAI, CE Project Beacon, Executive Director NHIDCL and other concerned officers also  attended the meeting.

While taking sector wise review of different initiatives, the Dy CM stressed on undertaking need based and area specific development so that the real motive of  the schemes being implemented for increasing connectivity of Jammu and Kashmir is ensured.

He said that the feedback of the people at the ground level should also be taken into consideration thereby making the government’s initiatives holistic.

The Dy  CM also stressed on the need for ensuring quality of works is not compromised. He said that the executing officers should ensure that the work is done in accordance with the laid down norms and strict action would be initiated against those violating the norms and using any kind of substandard material.

While stressing for ensuring time bound implementation of various schemes, the Dy CM said that we have to ensure that these are completed within the fixed timelines and no cost escalation takes place due to delay in work execution.

While reviewing implementation of the flagship programms of R&B sector being undertaken by NHIA, NHIDCL and BRO, the Deputy Chief Minister directed  the concerned for ensuring time-bound completion of projects besides full utilization of the funds earmarked for different sectors. He said that the same is necessary for ensuring that the holistic development of Jammu and Kashmir is undertaken and a better connectivity is made available to the general public.

The prominent among the projects reviewed included Semi Ring Roads Jammu, Srinagar, Ramban, Banihal, Delhi- Katra Express way, Jammu-Akhnoor road, Chatru- Vailoo, Khilani- Chatru, Akhnoor- Poonch road, Srinagar- Uri road, Baramulla- Tangdar road, Qazigund- Banihal, Qazingund- Srinagar, Dumail- Katra- Reasi- Pouni road and other road projects.

The Dy CM also directed for ensuring proper maintenance of different vital raids like Mughal road, National highway. He said that Officers should ensure that these vital roads are properly maintained and smooth to and fro flow of traffic is maintained for public convenience.
