Protest outside PHE department against water shortage

Srinagar: A severe water crisis has gripped the Abi Guzar area of Srinagar, prompting women from the locality to take to the streets in protest. The demonstrators, who gathered outside the office of Public Health Engineering (PHE) at Exchange Road, Srinagar, raised slogans emphasizing their dire need for water.

“We can’t cook, we can’t clean, and we can’t even provide our children with enough water to drink,” said a resident, adding that the authorities seem to have turned a blind eye to their plight.

This is not the first time the women of Abi Guzar have protested against the water shortage. Just a couple of days ago, they registered a similar protest, highlighting the gravity of the situation.

The water scarcity has affected various aspects of life in Abi Guzar. Residents are struggling to access basic amenities, and the lack of clean water has raised concerns about public health.

Shameema Akhtar, one of the locals from Abi Guzar, told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that things have gone from bad to worse over the past few weeks. “We get tap water only for a few hours at night,” he said.

The PHE department has faced criticism for its handling of the crisis. Locals accuse the authorities of being indifferent to their problems.(KNT)
