J&K Assembly election results LIVE: National Conference takes big lead in early trends

Though the Congress-NC alliance has been projected to emerge as the single largest pre-poll alliance, the lower end of the seat projection points to the possibility of a hung Assembly in J&K

The results of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections will be announced today (October 8, 2024) as counting of votes began at 8 a.m. Jammu and Kashmir, which was made a Union Territory after the abrogation of Article 370, held Assembly elections after 10 years.

The Congress alliance with the National Conference had an edge in exit polls, with the NC being projected as the single largest party. If numbers elude the parties, the J&K election results could head for a legal battle. The Congress accused the BJP of trying to subvert the verdict of the people of J&K by “all and any means”.

Phase 1 of J&K Assembly polls saw a voter turnout of about 61%, which is the highest in the past seven elections, said Chief Electoral Officer P.K. Pole. The second phase recorded a turnout of 57%. The third and final phase of the J&K Assembly Polls saw a voter turnout of over 69.65% on Tuesday (October 1, 2024) with the polling conducted peacefully, according to the Election Commission.
