Devotees thronged to Temples in J&K on First Day of Navratri, Offer Prayers

Srinagar: Devotees thronged to temples in J&K and paid obeisances on the first day of Navratri, which commenced on Thursday.

Devotees visited temples early morning and offered prayers besides performing puja on the auspicious occasion. Devotees were seen flocking to Bawe Wali Mata temple in Jammu and Mata Vaishno Devi temple in Katra on the Navratri’s first day.

The celebrations unfolded across the country and will continue for nine days during which the followers of Hinduism remain engrossed in worship.

“We are happy as it is an auspicious day for us all. May the Mata Rani bestow her blessing on all of us and keep the J&K secure from all things,” said Mandeep, a lady devotee, at Bawe Wali Mata temple.

“We have not slept since yesterday just to make sure that the Darshan will not be missed. However, I got the opportunity for Darshan at around 4 am. It was worth forgoing sleep for the glimpse of mata,” said another male devotee, who visited Mata Vaishno Devi temple along with his friends after a long time.
