Israel Bars UN Chief Guterres Over Iran Attack Response

Asian Mail

Israel Katz, the Foreign Minister of Israel barred Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary-General from the Country due to his failure to explicitly condemn Iran’s missile attack on them. This decision was taken after Iran launched 180 ballistic missiles at Israel, with some breaching Israel’s defenses amidst the rising tensions with Hezbollah.

Antonio Guterres statement referred only to the “latest attacks in the Middle East” and condemned the ongoing conflict without specifically addressing Iran’s actions. Katz criticised Guterres for not denouncing Hamas’s actions during Oct 7 attacks and accused him of supporting terrorist groups.

In a contrasting statement, Guterres expressed concern and condemned the escalating conflict in the Middle East, calling for an immediate ceasefire. However, the State of Israel responded, condemning Guterres’ inability to hold Iran responsible for firing missiles at Israeli civilians.

Katz emphasized that Israel will continue to defend its citizens and national dignity, with or without Guterres’ support. This development highlights the increasing tensions between Israel and Iran, with Israel seeking stronger condemnation of Iran’s actions from the international community.

Background on the Conflict

The recent missile attack is part of a larger conflict between Israel and Iran, with Iran retaliating against Israel’s bombing of the Iranian consulate in Damascus. The conflict has led to international involvement, with several countries providing defense support to Israel.
