Kashmir shines in Tricolour lights ahead of Independence Day celebrations

Srinagar: Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir Valley are adorned in the vivid colours of the Indian flag, setting the stage for a stunning visual celebration ahead of Independence Day festivities.
The streets of Srinagar, especially the iconic Lal Chowk, are ablaze with vibrant tricolour lights, turning government buildings, historical sites, and key landmarks into emblems of national pride.
“The festive atmosphere in Kashmir is electric, with government offices, major roads, and prominent locations bathed in the shades of saffron, white, and green. This illumination celebrates our nation’s independence and highlights our unity and diversity,” said a senior government official.
In line with the Centre’s ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, various tricolour rallies have been organized throughout the region.
The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Jammu and Kashmir Police and administration locals have been actively involved in hosting these rallies over the past several days, which have seen enthusiastic participation from residents, including a significant number of young men and women.
“These walkathons have been a powerful testament to our commitment to the nation,” noted a top police official.
News agency KNS reported that the celebrations have spread beyond Srinagar to districts like Ganderbal, Baramulla, Kupwara, and Shopian. Historical sites across the region have also been illuminated, further enhancing the festive atmosphere.

A senior Jammu and Kashmir administration official remarked, “These activities are part of our broader effort to engage the community in Independence Day celebrations.
The tricolour lighting and rallies embody the collective spirit and pride of our people.”
Meanwhile security measures have been significantly ramped up across the Kashmir valley to ensure a safe and peaceful Independence Day.
A comprehensive security plan, overseen by the Director General of Police (DGP) R.R. Swain, includes both human and technical surveillance. The primary focus is on securing the Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar, where Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will preside over the main Independence Day function.
High-rise buildings surrounding the stadium have been secured by sharpshooters, and advanced equipment, including drones and access control systems, has been deployed.
Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, V.K. Birdi, who led a full dress rehearsal at Bakshi Stadium, assured, “We have implemented a multi-tier security setup to ensure that the Independence Day celebrations are conducted without any issues. Our security arrangements are comprehensive, considering all potential threats to maintain peace.”
In Jammu, where the main function will take place at the Maulana Azad Stadium, security has been heightened as well. Vigilance is being maintained on the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway, and additional security measures have been put in place along the International Border and the Line of Control (LoC). Vehicles entering or leaving Jammu are being thoroughly checked, and security forces are conducting surprise inspections to prevent any disruptions.
The enhanced security measures reflect the authorities’ commitment to ensuring a smooth and celebratory Independence Day across Jammu and Kashmir, despite recent challenges.
