Anantnag: Police have arrested a notorious drug peddler in Anantnag and recovered huge quantity of contraband substance.
In a statement issued to Asian Mail, Police Spokesperson said that a Police party of Police Station Bijbehara established a checkpoint at Doudnard Waghama near the under-construction bridge, intercepted a vehicle (Santro) bearing registration number JK13C-0941 driving by Umer Ismail Dass, son of Mohd Ismail Dass of Waghama Bijbehara. During search, 95.830 Kgs of Poppy straw was recovered from the said vehicle. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Bijbehara where he remains in custody. Vehicle used for commission of crime was also seized on spot.
Meanwhile, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Bijbehara and investigation has been initiated.
