Heatwave Hits Kashmir: DHSK Urge Caution

Nuzhat Mushtaq

Srinagar:  A severe heatwave has gripped Kashmir, prompting health authorities to sound a warning and urge citizens to take precautions.

Temperatures have soared above normal levels, posing a risk of heat-related illnesses, said Director of Health Services Kashmir (DHSK), Dr. Mushtaq Rather.

“We are on high alert and have instructed health facilities to be prepared to handle cases of heatstroke and dehydration,” Dr. Rather said.

He advised citizens to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, avoid direct exposure to the sun during peak hours (10 AM to 4 PM), wear loose, light-colored clothing, and limit outdoor activities.

Vulnerable groups, such as the elderly and young children, need special protection from the heat, he added.

Symptoms to watch out for include dizziness, headache, nausea, and rapid heartbeat. Citizens are advised to seek immediate medical attention if they experience any of these symptoms.

By taking necessary precautions, citizens can stay safe and healthy during this heatwave.
