Encounter ensues between militants and SF in North Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 24 : An encounter ensued between militants and security forces during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in north Kashmir district of Baraulla on Thursday, a police spokesman said.

He said on a tip off about the presence of militants, troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir and CRPF launched a joint CASO in the wee hours of Thursday at village Wanigam Payeen Kreeri in Baramulla.

After sealing all exit points, when security forces launched house-to-house searches, they came under fire from militants hiding there this morning, he said adding fire was retaliated ensuing in an encounter.

The operation was going on when the reports last came in, he said adding further details are awaited.

Meanwhile, additional security forces and police personnel have been rushed to the area to prevent any law and order problem outside the cordoned off area.
