External Affairs Minister Ensures Safety of Indians in Bangladesh Amidst Violence

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has assured the safe return of Indian nationals from Bangladesh, where anti-quota protests have turned violent, resulting in several casualties. Nearly 1,000 Indian students have been successfully repatriated with the assistance of the Indian High Commission in Dhaka and its branches.

In a statement, Jaishankar acknowledged the concerns of families and well-wishers of Indian nationals in Bangladesh, stating, “MEA is fully focused on ensuring their safety and well-being.” The Indian High Commission and Assistant High Commissions have facilitated the return of Indian students through land ports and regular flight services from Dhaka and Chittagong airports.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has coordinated with local authorities, civil aviation, immigration, land ports, and BSF authorities to ensure a smooth passage for Indian citizens. Security escorts have been arranged for travel by road through select land ports, and the High Commission is working with Bangladesh authorities to ensure the safety and security of Indian nationals.

The High Commission and Assistant High Commissions remain in regular contact with over 4,000 Indian students still in Bangladesh, providing necessary assistance. Students from Nepal and Bhutan have also been aided in crossing into India.
