Six Killed, Including Indian National, in Muscat Mosque Shooting; Three Attackers Killed

Muscat, (Oman) : A shooting attack on the Ali bin Abi Talib mosque in Muscat, Oman’s capital city, has left six people dead, including an Indian national. Another Indian was injured in the attack, which occurred on July 16 night in the Al Wadi Al Kabir area.

According to the Indian Embassy in Muscat, the Foreign Ministry of Sultanate of Oman confirmed the casualties. The Embassy expressed its condolences and offered assistance to the families of the victims.

Oman News Agency reported that three attackers were killed by the Royal Oman Police (ROP) and military and security services. The victims included four Pakistanis, a policeman, and the Indian national. At least 28 people from different nationalities were injured and are receiving treatment.

Eyewitness accounts described a chaotic scene, with hundreds of worshippers in the mosque courtyard when the shooting began. The attack lasted for nearly three hours, with sporadic firing and panicked cries for help.

The Royal Oman Police expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery. This rare attack in Oman, a regional mediator with a low crime rate, occurred during the Muslim day of Ashura, a significant religious commemoration.
