“Biden Defies Age Concerns, Asserts Fitness for 2024 Race”

US President Joe Biden has defended his decision to run for the 2024 presidential election, dismissing concerns about his age and mental acuity.

In an interview with NBC News anchor Lester Holt, Biden acknowledged the concerns about his age, saying: “I understand why people say, ‘God, he’s 81 years old. Whoa. What’s he gonna be when he’s 83 years old, or 84 years?’ It’s a legitimate question to ask.”

However, Biden emphasized his accomplishments and mental sharpness, saying: “I’ve gotten more done than any president has in a long, long time in 3½ years. My mental acuity’s been pretty damn good.”

The president also pushed back against critics who question his viability against Republican candidate Donald Trump, saying: “I’m not the guy who said, ‘I want to be a dictator on Day 1.’ I’m not the guy who refused to accept the outcome of the [2020] election. I’m not the guy who said he wouldn’t accept the outcome of this election.”

Biden’s interview marked a fiery return to the campaign trail after a brief hiatus following an assassination attempt on Trump. Despite some Democratic lawmakers questioning his candidacy, Biden remains resolute, stating that he intends to honor the choice of Democratic voters who selected him as their candidate.
