Officer Among 5 Soldiers, Cop Killed In Doda Gunfight

Jammu: At least five soldiers including a Major and a personnel from JKP’s Special Operation Group were killed and a soldier was “critically injured” in a gunfight with militants in Dhari Gote Urarbagi in the Dessa forest area of Doda, officials said on Tuesday.

“Based on specific intelligence inputs, a joint operation by the Indian Army and JKP was in progress in the General area North of Doda,” the army said in a statement.
The contact with militants, the army said, was established at around 2100 hours last night “in which heavy firefight ensued”.

“Initial reports suggest injuries to our bravehearts,” the army said, adding, “Additional troops have been moved into the area. Operations are continuing.”

Official sources said that five soldiers including the officer succumbed to injuries. One soldier is admitted in critical condition, they said. Also, they said, a SOG personnel of SOG died in the gunfight.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed deep anguish over the attack on Army soldiers and Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) personnel in the Doda district.

The attack, which resulted in the loss of brave soldiers, has drawn widespread condemnation and calls for justice.

In a X post LG said, “I am deeply anguished to learn about the cowardly attack on our Army soldiers and JKP personnel in Doda district. Tributes to brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice protecting our nation. My deepest condolences to members of the bereaved families,”

Emphasizing the resolve to bring the perpetrators to justice, LG Sinha stated, “We will avenge the death of our soldiers and thwart the evil designs of terrorists and their associates. I call upon the people to unite in the fight against terrorism and provide us with accurate information so that we can intensify anti-terror operations and neutralize the terror ecosystem.”
