Critically Injured Man in Uri Finds Shoulders of Police Personnel To Cross Through Nallah Jhelum’s Raging Waters

Srinagar: A man having sustained critical injuries after coming under a landslide, alongside another person, was on Monday night ferried on shoulders by police personnel through nallah Jhelum, amid brief closure of the Baramulla-Uri highway.

As per details available with GNS, two persons Nazir Ahmad Naik and Mushtaq Ahmad Naik sustained injuries after coming under a landslide at Garkote area. The falling debris simultaneously blocked the Baramulla-Uri highway.

The injured duo was taken to SDH Uri, wherefrom the doctors directed for immediate referral of one Mushtaq Ahmad Naik to GMC Baramulla. However, due to blockade of the highway, the attendants of Mushtaq were caught in predicament.

On receiving an SOS call, a police party reached the health facility and despite raging waters in nallah Jhelum flowing in the area, decided to take the patient on their shoulders to the other side. Wading through the ice-cold waters during night hours, the police personnel successfully took the person to the other side (Lagama) from where the person was finally taken to GMC Baramulla for treatment – for multiple injuries.

The act of generosity by the police personnel has garnered praise from cross sections of society in the area. “They Police have been kind enough with their noble act as otherwise it was nearly impossible for us to do anything except to wait till the reopening of the road,” said a family member.

Meanwhile, another injured person was also evacuated to GMC Baramulla after clearance of debris from the landslide this morning.
