Rain and snow continued in Kashmir; normal life affected

Srinagar: Normal life has been affected due to heavy rains in the plains of Kashmir valley and light to moderate snowfall in the hilly areas. Roads and alleys are waterlogged while Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, Mughal Road and Srinagar-Leh Highway Vigar hill roads are closed for traffic.

According to reports, in some residential areas of the valley, water has also entered the houses, due to which the residents are facing multiple problems. People say that the roads and alleys have turned into wet drains and it is difficult to get out of the houses. It has become impossible. Meanwhile, in view of bad weather conditions, the authorities have issued orders to keep schools closed on Monday in some districts.

According to a spokesperson of the Meteorological Department, during the last 24 hours, about half a foot of fresh snow has accumulated in the tourist places of Gulmarg and Sonmarg, while 8 to 12 inches of fresh snow has been recorded in Talil, Gumri and Mina Marg and other hilly areas of the valley. There has also been light snowfall. He said that 38.6 mm of rain has been recorded in Srinagar during the last 24 hours, while 64.4 mm in Qazigund, 40.2 mm in Kupwara and 43.6 mm in Kokernag have been recorded. Is.

Gulmarg and Pahalgam, popular tourist destinations in the valley, recorded 30.2 mm and 51.7 mm of rainfall respectively.

According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rains are expected in the plains during the next 24 hours in the Kashmir valley, while light snowfall is expected in the hilly areas. Winds can also blow. He said that the weather in the valley will remain generally cloudy on April 30 with the possibility of light to moderate rains at some places. He said that later on in the valley from May 1 to 5. The weather may remain dry overall till May.

In an advisory issued by the Meteorological Department, farmers have been asked to shut down operations in their orchards and farm fields till May 1.

According to the advisory, during this time, the traffic in the mountainous areas of the valley may be affected, while water may accumulate in the low-lying areas, and there are also risks of landslides and rockslides in some areas.
