Beijing: China launched on Monday a new remote sensing satellite into space using the Long March-2D carrier rocket, Chinese media reported.

The rocket was launched at 12:12 p.m. Beijing time (04:12 GMT) from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in northwest China, successfully putting the Gaojing-3-01 satellite into orbit, Xinhua news agency reported.

The satellite will be used to collect remote sensing data for commercial purposes, including digital agriculture, urban information modelling, and live 3D, as well as for disaster prevention and civil protection, as well as land and sea monitoring and mapping, the report said.

This is the 516th flight mission performed by rockets of the Long March type, the news outlet added.
