Police arrest two drug Peddlers in Handwara

Handwara: Jammu Kashmir Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested two persons with contraband substances in Handwara.

“Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from society, Police have arrested 02 drug peddlers in Handwara and recovered contraband substances from their possession,” reads a statement issued here.

“A police party of Police post magam led by IC PP Magam under the supervision of SDPO Handwara and SHO handwara intercepted a vehicle (Tata sumo) bearing Registration Number JK09 4301 at Khanpora Crossing driven by Irshad Ahmad Lone, resident of Taratpura and a passenger who disclosed his identity as Shabir Ahmad Marazi, resident of Summer Bug Lasjan Srinagar. Upon seeing the police party,the duo tried to flee from the spot but were apprehended tactfully,” reads the statement.

“During the search of the vehicle, a charas-like substance weighing about 106 grams was recovered from their possession. The vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.”

“In this regard, an Fir No 68/24 U/S 8/20 NDPS Act registered in PS Handwara and investigation has been initiated,” reads the statement.

“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding Drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt with as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” reads the statement further.
