Singapore: Singapore’s leader of the opposition and chief of the Workers’ Party, Pritam Singh, pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to charges of lying to a parliament committee, according to a statement issued on his social media.
Singh noted that he was charged with two counts under the Parliament (Privileges, Immunities, and Powers) Act for providing a “false answer” to the Committee of Privileges in December 2021.
Singh said he has claimed trial, adding he will continue to perform the parliamentary duties and town council responsibilities until the legal process comes to a complete close.
The opposition leader is accused of falsely testifying at the Committee of Privileges hearings involving former member of parliament Raeesah Khan from the Workers’ Party, according to local media reports.
Raeesah Khan resigned from the parliament and the Workers’ Party in 2021 after she was found lying to the parliament.
