Sensex down over 500 points

Mumbai: The BSE Sensex on Thursday dropped 570 points to 70,486.59 in early trade-on-profit booking by local operators.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) slipped 156.15 points to 21,297.80.

The Sensex registered intraday highs and lows at 71,049.46 and 70,480.40 points, respectively.

The Nifty recorded intraday highs and lows at 21,459 and 21,287.45 pts, respectively.

The midcap fell by 0.28 pc, while the small cap rose by 0.36 pc.

In 30 scrips, 4 advanced while 26 declined.

The losers were Tech Mahindra by 5.15 pc to Rs 1335.25, Axis Bank by 2.06 pc to Rs 1036.90, HDFC Bank by 1.45 pc to Rs 1434.80, HCL Technology by 1.36 pc to Rs 1573.70, and ITC by 1.32 pc to Rs 457.60.

The gainers were NTPC by 1.86 pc to Rs 314.90, IndusInd Bank by 1.35 pc to Rs 1510.70, Hind Unilever by 0.70 pc to Rs 2461.15, and Bajaj Finserv by 0.11 pc to Rs 1622.50.
