PM lauds ISRO scientists for successfully injecting Aditya-L1 into final orbit

New Delhi:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday hailed scientists for successfully injecting the Aditya-L1 satellite into the final orbit, saying, “India creates yet another landmark.”

The Aditya-L1 satellite is India’s first space-based solar observatory, launched from Sriharikota on September 2, and expected to stay for the next five years

in this strategic location, which is approximately 1.5 million km away from Earth.

In a social media post X , Prime Minister Modi said, “India creates yet another landmark. India’s first solar observatory Aditya-L1 reaches it destination.”

“It is a testament to the relentless dedication of our scientists in realizing among the most complex and intricate space missions. I join the nation in applauding this extraordinary feat. We will continue to pursue new frontiers of science for the benefit of humanity,” he further added.

Union Minister of State Science & Technology Dr Jitendra Singh also lauded “Team ISRO”, saying, “What a glorious turn of year for Bharat. Under the visionary leadership of PM Modi, yet another success story was scripted by Team ISRO.”

“Aditya L1 reaches its final orbit to discover the mysteries of the Sun-Earth connection,” he said on X.

According to ISRO officials, the spacecraft will be placed in a halo orbit around Lagrange point 1 (L1) of the Sun-Earth system, about 1.5 million km from the Earth.

The L1 point is about one per cent of the total distance between the Earth and the Sun. A satellite in a halo orbit around the L1 point has the major advantage of continuously viewing the Sun without any eclipses.

The official added that this will provide a greater advantage in observing solar activities and their effects on space weather in real-time.
