Drug Peddler, Ferrying Contraband Substance in Vehicle, Arrested in Kulgam: Police

 

Kulgam: A drug peddler, who was ferrying a contraband substance in his vehicle, was arrested in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, said police on Friday morning.

Police spokesperson said that a specific checkpoint was established by the police party of Police Station Kund at Waripora and intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK01M-2080 during the checking.

“While searching the vehicle, officers were able to recover three kg of Poppy Straw like contraband substance from the said vehicle,” said the police spokesperson.

The accused person has been identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Handroo son of Abdul Aziz Handroo, a resident of Boat Colony Anantnag. “The vehicle used in the commission of crime has been seized.”

During preliminary investigation, it came to fore that the said person is involved in the drug peddling and is promoting illegal menace and luring the youth of the area towards drug addiction, police said.

Regarding the incident, a case with FIR No. 01/2024 under sections of 8/15 of the NDPS Act was registered at the Police Station Kund, with further investigation taken up.
