Sonamarg all set to host two-day New Year festival

Festival to commence on 31th December; DC reviews arrangements

Ganderbal: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shyambir today convened a meeting of officers and stakeholders to review the arrangements for organizing mega New Year festival at Sonamarg.

At the outset, CEO, Sonamarg Development Authority briefed the DC about the arrangements to be put in place for organizing two-day New Year Festival at Sonamarg.

In the meeting it was revealed that the festival shall start on 31th December during which several activities including winter sports and cultural activities will be held on both the days.

The DC sought the details regarding the arrangements to be put in place including identification and beautification of venue, accommodation, water and power supply, cultural activities, health facilities, heating arrangements, transport, parking, operationalization of Z-Morh Tunnel and other related facilities to be put in place for successful conduct of the festival.

While finalizing the arrangements, the DC maintained that we are expecting huge rush of tourists including locals on the new year and said that Collaborative efforts and coordination of all stakeholders is necessary to provide seamless facilities to the tourists who are coming to attendant the event.

The meeting was attended by Additional District Development Commissioner, Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani,   CEO, SDA; Joint Director Tourism, Executive Engineers of various wings, representative of Hotelier Association Sonamarg, various Officers/ Officials of District Administration and other stakeholders.
