PM in ‘Great Pain’, President ‘Dismayed’ Over Humiliation of Vice President by MPs in Parliament

New Delhi: The Vice President of India and Chairman of Rajya Sabha, Jagdeep Dhankhar Wednesday said that he received a phone call from the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was in “great pain over the abject theatrics” of some MPs in the sacred Parliament complex.

Vice President of India in a post on X said, “Received a call from Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji and expressed extreme grief over the outrageous theatrics displayed by some honourable MPs in the sacred premises of Parliament yesterday.”

VP Dhankhar said that PM told him that he has been enduring such insults for the last twenty years, but with a constitutional post like the Vice President of the country, and that too in the Parliament, “it is unfortunate that this happens”.

“I told the Prime Minister that the absurd actions of some people cannot stop me from performing my duty and respecting the principles enshrined in our Constitution. I am committed to constitutional values and such insults cannot divert me from my path,” wrote Vice President of Indian on X.

On the incident, the President of India Droupadi Murmu said she was dismayed to see the manner in which our respected Vice President was humiliated in the Parliament complex.

“Elected representatives must be free to express themselves, but their expression should be within the norms of dignity and courtesy. That has been the Parliamentary tradition we are proud of, and the People of India expect them to uphold it,” President of India added on X.

In response to the President’s post on X, VP Dhankhar said, “Thank you Rashtrapati Ji for your kind words and the timely reminder that basic courtesies must always remain. I am committed to upholding Constitutional principles till my last breath. No insults can prevent me from doing so.”
