Central Bureau of Communication organizes ICOP at Government Eliezer Joldan Memorial College, Leh

Leh :The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC) Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India today organized an Integrated Communication and Outreach Programme (ICOP) as part of the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva campaign at Government Eliezer Joldan Memorial College (GEJMC), Leh.

More than two hundred students and teaching and non-teaching staff of the college participated in the programme.

Addressing the gathering, In-charge Principal GEJMC Ms Rinchin Angmo thanked CBC for choosing the college for holding the event there. She requested the students to take care of their surroundings and make every effort to ensure that they keep their surroundings clean.

Ms Angmo said that the need of the hour is that more such programmes are conducted at regular intervals. She requested students to adhere to whatever has been said during the programme.

State Mission Manager, Municipal Committee Leh, Ms Fariha Yousuf also addressed the students and said that cleanliness is the responsibility of every single citizen and not just the government or the municipal authorities. She said that Ladakhi culture is one which does not promote waste production and we should go back to our roots if we want to tackle the problem of waste management.

Ms Yousuf also emphasised upon the importance of segregating waste at source and said that in the present times, waste is a resource that can lead to revenue generation if handled properly and with care. She emphasized that everyone should be familiar with segregation of waste and said that it should be the responsibility of every citizen to adhere to the rules of waste management.

A ‘Swachhata Pledge’ was also administered to the students as part of the ICOP wherein they were encouraged to spread the message of cleanliness and spend two hours every week on activities related to cleanliness.

The programme also witnessed performances from Cultural and Traditional Society, Ladakh which left the audience spell bound and enthralled.

As part of the ICOP, a dustbin was also donated to the college and the students took part in a cleanliness drive wherein they cleaned the surroundings of the college.

Earlier in the programme, Field Publicity Officer, CBC Field Office Leh, Aamir Amin Nowshahri, while welcoming the guests, thanked district administration Leh and the college authorities for helping conduct the ICOP at short notice. He stressed upon students to make cleanliness their motto in life and also encourage others to do the same.

The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Sh Sikandar Qureshi, Field Publicity Assistant, CBC Field Office Srinagar.
