Sheikh Hasina-Narendra Modi summit meeting in New Delhi today

Dhaka:Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is going to India’s capital New Delhi today on a three-day state visit. Her visit is to attend the G-20 summit to be held in New Delhi on September 9-10 at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Besides, Sheikh Hasina will hold a bilateral meeting with Narendra Modi this afternoon. Prior to the meeting, three MoUs will be signed on cooperation in the agricultural research sector, cultural exchange and facilitation of transactions between citizens of the two countries.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. AK Abdul Momen said information in a press conference organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday regarding the Prime Minister’s visit to India.

In response to a question whether the upcoming elections in Bangladesh will be discussed during the Prime Minister’s visit to India, the foreign minister said, ‘I don’t know. We want regional peace and stability. We are committed to free and fair elections. We don’t want any rigging.”

He said, ‘We want transparent and beautiful elections. If anyone out there can extend a helping hand to us, we welcome it. But if someone brings the role of matbari, we will not tolerate it. We are a free and sovereign country. Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina is not afraid of anyone. He said, ‘We are not under any pressure. Because we are very clear that we will choose the beautiful one. Whether others like it or not, it’s their problem. They will crumble under pressure. But we will survive.’ He said in Sheikh Hasina’s meeting with Narendra Modi, connectivity, distribution of Teesta water will be discussed.
