AAP’s Sanjay Singh suspended from Rajya Sabha for remaining part of Monsoon session

New Delhi, July 24 : Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh was suspended from Rajya Sabha on Monday for the remaining part of the ongoing Monsoon session for storming into the well and insisting for discussion on the Manipur issue.

Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar named the parliamentarian as he approached the Chair, storming into the well, and demanded a debate on law and order breakdown in the north-eastern state of Manipur.

He stormed to the well during the Question Hour even as opposition members continued their sloganeering and chanted ‘Narendra Modi jawab do, jawab do’.

Leader of the House Piyush Goyal moved the motion to suspend Sanjay Singh and it was adopted by the House. Following this, the House was adjourned till 2 PM, the second adjournment of the day amid opposition uproar.

The Monsoon session of the Parliament started last week on a stormy note with Opposition parties demanding a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi over Manipur horror which involved a crowd numbering in few hundred parading two women naked and alleged gang-rape.

Both Houses of Parliament have witnessed frequent protests by Opposition members leading to adjournments. The stalemate continued today also as the opposition members refused to budge from their positions.

As widely expected, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned today within 15 minutes of its proceedings. It was first adjourned till 12 noon and then till 2 PM.
