Govt calls all-party meeting ahead of parliament session

New Delhi, July 19 : Ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, the government convened an all-party meeting on Wednesday to deliberate on a host of issues related to Parliament’s monsoon session.

The Monsoon session will commence on Thursday and continue until August 11.

There will be a total of 17 sittings in this session spread over 23 days.

During the all-party meeting, the government will seek the support of all the parties to ensure the smooth functioning of both Houses of Parliament.

Earlier, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi had urged all parties to contribute towards productive discussions on legislative business and other items during the Monsoon Session.

According to reports, around 32 bills are expected to be tabled in the monsoon session, beginning on July 20. The bills include the Forest Bill and the Data Protection Bill.

On Tuesday, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), held a meeting in New Delhi with its 39 member parties.

On the other hand, the opposition, consisting of 26 parties, was already engaged in a two-day meeting in Bengaluru.

The meeting aimed to form an “anti-BJP” front called the “Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA)”.
