187 FIR’s registered, 318 drug peddlers arrested, 34 hardcore’s among them booked under PSA in last 6 months in Baramulla: SSP Amod Nagpure

 Baramulla, July 18 : Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla, Amod Ashok Nagpure Tuesday said that Baramulla Police have registered 187 FIR’s under NDPS Act in last six months in which 318 drug peddlers have been arrested while as 34 hardcore’s among them have been booked under Public Safety Act (PSA) in an effort to put an end on the rising drug addiction among youth.

The SSP said that Drug peddling and smuggling is a major challenge in frontier district Baramulla but under J&K police’s sustained campaign, we have been able to curb this menace to a long extent in the last 6 months. “We have been able to tighten the noose around drug peddlers and through this medium I warn all those who are involved in this trade to mend their ways or face tough action. In the last 6 months we have registered 187 FIR’s under NDPS Act and have arrested 318 drug peddlers, while 34 chronic peddlers have been booked under NDPS Act,” SSP as per KNS said.
He said drug peddling is a “big challenge” for Baramulla Police however due to coordinated and sustained efforts this menace has been curbed to a large extent. “Our strategy is to concentrate on demand and supply side. We are working on it. We communicate this message through your medium that whosoever would be found involved in drug peddling won’t be spared,” he said.
He added Baramulla Police is running drug de-addiction centre in order to save youth from this menace. “There are many drug de-addiction centers operational in Baramulla, Srinagar, Anantnag and other areas with an aim to save youngsters from the consequences of drug usage,” SSP added.
He hoped that with the active participation and cooperation of locals the Baramulla district will become a “drug-free” district soon.
The SSP was briefing media persons about the successful conduct of Free-Medical Camp held in Silikote area. “Today North Kashmir Range of J&K Police organised a free medical camp in Silikote area which was a part of Govt. of India’s Border Outreach Programme.
SSP said the aim of the programme was to reach out to people living in border areas and address their health  exigencies. “It was a successful programme. People in large number took part in the camp,” he held.
