PM Modi to participate in Yoga Day celebrations at UN Headquarters on June 21

New Delhi, June 16 :Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said he is looking forward to participating in the International Day of Yoga celebrations at the UN headquarters on June 21, and added that the participation of the UNGA President Csaba Kőrösi would make the programme even more special.

In a tweet, the PM said that yoga brings the world together towards furthering good health and wellness and hoped that it should get more popular globally.

“Looking forward to seeing you at the International Day of Yoga celebrations at the UNHQ. Your participation makes the programme even more special.

“Yoga brings the world together towards furthering good health and wellness. May it keep getting more popular globally.”

He was replying to a tweet of Csaba Kőrösi, President of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, who said he was looking forward to participating in the 9th International Day of Yoga celebrations with PM Modi.

“I am looking forward to participating in the 9th International Day of Yoga celebrations @UN with Prime Minister @NarendraModi at the UNHQ North Lawn next week.”

The 9th annual International Yoga Day celebration is being held on 21 June, from 8:00-9:00 AM EST at the North Lawn of UN Headquarters in New York.

A statement said: “Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India. The word ‘yoga’ derives from Sanskrit and means to join or to unite, symbolizing the union of body and consciousness.

“Today it is practiced in various forms around the world and continues to grow in popularity.

“Recognizing its universal appeal, on 11 December 2014, the United Nations proclaimed 21 June as the International Day of Yoga by resolution 69/131.

“The International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga.”
