Press Club in Srinagar necessary: Darakhshan Andrabi

Srinagar, June 15 :Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board Chairperson and BJP leader Darakhshan Andrabi on Thursday said that the existence of a press club in Srinagar is necessary and she will talk to the Lt Governor for a press club in Srinagar. “Srinagar is our face and existence of a press club is necessary”, she told media persons in Srinagar on Thursday.

She said if they consider journalism the fourth pillar of society a place like the Press Club is necessary.

“We did provide a press club to south Kashmir as there was a commitment with them made already” She added. The Kashmir Press Club in Srinagar, which was the biggest representative body for the Valley’s journalists, was shut down in January 2022 by the government of the union territory of Kashmir. The erstwhile Press Club building now houses a police office.

Andrabi said they believe that without media and journalism the society could not move forward.

“That is why we have allotted a press club in south Kashmir”, Andrabi said.

“Let us talk with the Lieutenant Governor administration and the authorities of which I am also a part of …if we will not think about you then for whom, she said and added “We will definitely think about providing you press club but give some time…you can keep hope for the better”, she added.
