CORONAVIRUS: Kashmir lockdown enters day 7

Srinagar, Mar 25 (PTK): A complete lockdown prompted by the threat of Covid-19 disease entered a 7th day on Wednesday in Kashmir valley as roads were deserted and markets shut.

The markets across all districts of Kashmir valley remained closed and roads also remained blocked with concertina wires and manned by the police.

A total of four persons have tested positive in the Kashmir so far and three persons have tested positive in Jammu.

Schools colleges and universities which reopened last month after several months of lockdown in the backdrop of abrogation of Article 370 and bifurcation of erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir State into to union territories have been already shut and people crave for essential supplies as they prepare for another period of lockdown.
On Tuesday Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for a national lockdown from midnight on March 24 for 21 days.
“From 12 midnight, the whole country will go on lockdown. To save India, to save all citizens of India, to save you and your family, there will be a total ban on stepping out of home,” he had said.
2928 persons have been kept under home quarantine while as 71 are in hospital quarantine.
Persons who are under home surveillance stand at 1268 while as 498 persons have completed their 28-day surveillance period.
279 samples have been sent for testing of which 253 tested as negative. Only six persons have tested positive so far and of them, only five are Active Positive and one patient has recovered.
