2 dead bodies still stuck in Handwara due to closure of Kupwara-Karnah road

Kupwara, Feb 9: As the Kupwara-Karnah road remains blocked due to the accumulation of snow on 701 highway and continuous snowfall, two bodies of Karnah residents remained stuck in North Kashmir’s Handwara.

Although the district administration has kept the bodies in the mortuaries, their relatives are demanding airlifting them so that their last rights could be performed at the earliest.

Two natives from Karnah, one from Umrohi and another from Dildar Batpora died a week before in Srinagar hospital and their bodies are stuck in Handwara.

Sarpanch Dildar Karnah, Raja Abdul Hamid told news agency Kashmir News Trust that despite repeated requests, the dead bodies have not been airlifted. He said relatives are going through mental trauma for the last week as they are helpless before the circumstances.

He said there was a demand from locals to construct a tunnel on the Kupwara-Karnah road and even the government had promised the same but it has turned out to be a hoax.

The Sarpanch appealed to the district administration Kupwara to airlift the bodies to native places.

An official from district administration Kupwara said that they tried to arrange a chopper but due to the low visibility it was unable to take off.
