RS members for extending time to review ‘Draft Edn Policy’ by 6 months

New Delhi,: Members of the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday demanded the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry to extend the stipulated time period by six months to review the ‘Draft Education Policy’.
Raising this issue during the Zero hour, D Raja of the the CPI urged the Government to extend time because the draft policy is lengthy and contains over 400 pages.
“This is an important issue and the draft policy should be studied carefully, therefore, the stipulated time must be extended by six months”, Mr Raja said.
He also urged the Government to get the education policy document translated in all 22 languages as education is on Concurrent List of the Constitution and all States must go through the entire draft. The draft has been released in English and Hindi and a summary of the draft copy was also released, he added.
Supporting the demand of Mr Raja, Tiruchi Shiva of the DMK said the recommendations of the draft policy are not in accordance with the socio-economic conditions our society and the Government should see this anomaly.
Mr Shiva also drew the attention of the Government that the HRD Ministry has sought online suggestions but the other options should also be considered.
